There are a lot of myths about eyelash extensions. It is not painful to get them applied. They do not make your natural eyelashes fall out. Your eyelashes will definitely still grow. As you read on I will explain all the myths and why they are just myths.
First, let me explain what eyelash extensions are exactly. Lash extensions are synthetic lashes glued individually to your natural lashes to enhance thickness, length and colour.
Myth 1: Your eyelashes will fall out
Firstly, your eyelashes fall out anyway. You just don’t realize it because they’re small and fine, but our natural lashes fall out every four to six weeks just like the hairs on our head. Eyelash extensions only get a bad reputation because it is more noticeable to spot natural eyelashes that have shed when they’re glued to long, thick, synthetic lashes.
Myth 2: Your eyelashes will never grow back
Your eyelashes will definitely grow back. New natural eyelashes are always growing in, that is why we offer infills every 2 to 3 weeks. In other words? If eyelash extensions really made your eyelashes cease growing, refills wouldn’t even be possible, because there has to be a natural lash for the extension to adhere to.
Myth 3: Eyelash extensions hurt
Take it from someone who has gotten them done several times: Nothing about the process hurts! It’s not a matter of tolerance levels; there simply is no pain involved in the eyelash extension process. Your bottom lashes are taped down to your skin, so they don’t get in the way, long tweezers are then used to isolate one natural lash so an extension can be applied to it. If you are worried about someone using tweezers close to your eyes, you might feel anxiety, but pain is not part of the deal.
Myth 4: After stopping extensions, your natural lash will be shorter and thinner
Many people feel that their natural lashes get thinner or shorter afterwards, but it’s essentially an optical illusion. You get used to waking up every day with thicker and longer lashes. So, understandably, you think your eyelashes are thinner and shorter after the extensions have ended. But this is not the case and getting extensions has no chemical effect on the thickness or length of the lashes you were born with.
Myth 5: You must take breaks
Many people think that you have to take breaks from getting extensions in order to let your natural lashes “breathe.” The idea that it’s not good to get repeated extensions because your eyelashes need breathing room is mere myth. Your eyelashes do not know that extensions are being applied to them, and they continue to shed off like normal, and a new natural lash will grow back. However it is completely up to the client whether or not they wish to take a break.
Myth 6: They take forever to be applied
False, they take about one and a half hours to apply a full set of about 60 lashes per eye.
Now, there are a few tips to care for them properly.
- The first 24 hours avoid anything that would wet your eyes: swimming, showers or saunas
- Avoid any mascara – this will break down the glue and make them fall out faster
- Don’t sleep on your face
- Avoid rubbing your eyes
- Try not to use cotton pads or cotton buds around your eyes
